>> VERSION FRANCAISE

Even when he was very young  Antonin Rêveur knew that he was an activist at heart. He was a shy-natured boy but soon found a way to express himself through drawing. Later he  began experimenting with graffitti  on the tables and walls of his secondary school. By doing this he left visual traces to be seen by all, enabling him to share his ideas. But he soon realised that the world of graffiti was only concerned with the aesthetic aspect and the expression of an ego whereas he saw things from a very different perspective. For Antoine, art was above all a formidable means of communication.

Even though Antonin Rêveur continued to mix in the same circles as other graffiti artists of his generation he soon began to distinguish himself from the others. His art became his means of release. Nowadays, his social and political concerns are at the heart of his work.

This is why his work always seems to be demanding something.  With this in mind, Antonin Rêveur presents to us here an installation, entitled 'Derives', which is the result of a project he has been working on between since 2006.

His work takes the form of an urban image in order to send a message of warning.  He takes as a subject  the warped notion of security that has become such an important element within western society in the last few years. Is Rêveur (in English 'the Dreamer')  the only person who believes that art still holds a certain power : the power to make us think about the society we live in? Antoine Rêveur thinks so and brandishes his art in our faces like a gentle weapon. With a smile and a look, he seems to want us to feel an electroshock, a wake up call.
